Phishing and similar crimes

Yes, to be aware of e-mails is the first step...along with common sense. Nobody in their right mind is going to hand over their password or bank account number. if they do, then they have no business being on the internet or need some major Parental Controls, so to speak.
Daily I receive more than one "phishing", "spoof" e-mail and the likes. They have targeted eBay and Paypal and/or thier clients, at least in the e-mails I am receiving they are and also the Inheritance scam..been getting those for years.
I really thought I was "safe" and "secure" on a couple of the "big name" sites until recently when I was hacked, spoofed, scammed and had my identity stolen. The really bad part about it is that it happened through one of the "big sites" via a site that they endorsed! Things happened in a hurry to get my account back to where it was and a couple of e-mails were sent to me with apologies and the like, but now what? This ended up costing me a lot of money (never refunded), a new bank account, new checks (all at my expense), plus a lot of time spent changing passwords, "secret questions" and the whole she-bang. Cut and dried? Not on my end it isn't. Enraged? You bet I am, but what more can I do now? Police report? Check! Alert put on with the 3 major credit reporting agencies? Check! Firewall? Check! REALLY hard-to-guess passwords? Check!
Come on, there has got to be something out there to help fight fraud on-line. Stay off of the internet? Can't do that when I have an on-line business to run. Be happy that this was the first time and it could have beenworse? Don't even go there. It's getting worse and even though many don't want more laws, there has got to be more laws made or at least enforced.
