REALITY CHECK- more laws...
Here's a reality check on the idea of more laws about cybercrime (from someone who works in the field): more laws will only confuse the issue and the enforcement and prosecution of cases involving child abuse and fraud and other more sinister crimes (such as extortion) that involves the use of computers and the internet.

Fraud is fraud, no matter what tools or technologies are involved. The essential focus needs to be on enforcing basic laws.

All current laws concerning the use of computer technologies in the commission of crimes severely distort the reality of what is actually occuring, and TRUTH and JUSTICE suffers greatly.

The only thing where legislation is needed is to clarify the nature of computer technology evidence and how it can be used, not whether actions done with the aid of a computer is legal or illegal. Unfortunately, those who would pass such needed legislation are ignorant of computer and internet technologies and any law passed is more than likely to be out of touch with reality. The end result is that prosecution of crimes committed with computer and internet related technologies has the real potential of perverting justice (something I see all the time as an expert witness).

All "computer" or "internet" crimes are already covered by basic legislation already on the books before computers existed. The problem is in the investigation, evaluation of evidence, and prosecution of a crime that involves the use of computer/internet technologies. The people involved at all stages are not usually competent enough to properly evaluate computer evidence...especially prosecuting attornys (defense attornys are no better).

I for one do not wish for new laws passed by people who have no real understanding of the topic they are legislating.
