Euro Border Crossings
Not quite. Most of the border crossings in the EU are no more onerous than crossing state lines in the US, at least within the 15 Schengen countries. No customs, no immigration, just a welcome sign as you fly down the highway. Recently, even the Brits are not checking documents from flights originating in other Schengen countries.

It sometimes gets even looser than that. I flew from Zagreb, Croatia to Milan, Italy last summer and the Italians treated it as an internal flight -- no passport checks or stamps at all. They just waved everyone through. It was a bit unnerving being an American in Europe without a visa stamp from a Schengen country in my passport, though nobody seemed to care.
