No Scam...
So all these horror stories we've heard about for the past 10 years was all made up then? What a scam..

Hardly. But I'll wager that Milly has impeccable web surfing habits. I'll wager she doesn't visit sites that are of questionable repute that might get her infected either. I'll also bet she uses a decent antivirus product and makes sure it's kept up to date and I'll also wager she probably has her computer properly locked down as well.

Unfortunately, she is not everyone else. There are noobs and people who fall for every lame bit of social engineering and open that "sex vid" of Paris Hilton or the pathetic and desperate types who just HAVE to get their herbal viagra and other cheap medZ. You know the types - the ones that respond to spam thinking it will provide the miracle cure for whatever ails them or get them that unbelievably LOW mortgage rate...

Ok... So maybe some of these people have an IQ that's approaching room temp... But, they're out there. They know they probably shouldn't respond to these things. Lord knows, we who are in the know have told them time and again that it's probably a scam and its dangerous to go there. But, their curiosity is piqued. Either that or they're the adrenalin junkies of the online world - thinking they can brave the dangers of visiting some nasty web sites and get away unscathed.

For what it's worth, I haven't had much in the way of infections, infestations and the like either. In fact, the ONLY "spyware/adware" that ever winds up on my computer would be of the cookie variety courtesy of ads.doubleclick.net and ZDNET...
