It won't stop this exploit yet, but....
If you are using MS Windblows w/ IE6 patched or not, then you should also be using Bugoff.zip by Merijn.Org http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/
Look under his Downloads section for Bugoff.zip

It stops 8 other unpatched (ok, 1 in the Bugoff tools list has actually had a patch released so far for it in about 2 years), MS Windows XP (among other OS's), & IE6 exploits. There are side effects, like if all items are enabled it won't play a Yahoo Video, or Outlook Express Messages won't actually be displayed/ are blank (though they are there if you look at the message properties page), or the Windows Help system won't actually work.

But if you install it and put a desktop or Quick launch shortcut you can toggle the items between enabled and disabled to access known (or expected safe anyway), safe sites/other "Bugoff" disabled MS "stale" Windblows features.

I don't watch many Yahoo Browser Videos but do occasionally for specific news stories. I wouldn't have Outlook Express installed on ANY of my computers and most of my customers have it un-installed too. (Webmail is cool & most often free). And I rarely EVER use the Windows Help system as I am a tech...So...Bugoff is installed on mine and most of my customers boxes.

Unzip it to "C:\Unzipped\Bugoff"...Disable all 8 items, Send a shortcut to the desktop, and drop a copy in Quick Launch if you have QL set and say goodbye to browser hijackers, etc..

The top item is the one that messes (blank messages in Outlook Express), w/ the Outlook Express messages. Since I don't use OE you should have seen my customer's face...The one that wouldn't change to webmail vafter a full cleaning and setup...When every message of over 1000 saved & received OE messages were all just totally blank (though like I said, click on message properties and I could read each 1 of them). I had to sleep on that problem overnight, then bang it hit me while having my coffee in the morning..., 3 clicks later all his messages were fully readable again...It's LIKE MAGIC! The 4th 1 down "HMLHTTP Object" is the one that shuts off browser Video Players like Yahoo News Vid's....Click Enable and you can still temp watch the videos. Just don't forget to turn it back to disabled later. There are a few that affect the Windows Help function, so it tells me something about that specific function eh?

I'll bet Merijn could write the patch faster than MS for the current exploit.
Why oh why Uncle Billy are there unpatched exploits in IE or Windows? Don't we pay enough for your swiss cheese Uncle Billy? Patch Tuesday is the most rediculous thing ever encountered Uncle Billy....Release our cheese band-aids please upon completion.

I better shhhhh, he keeps me plenty busy and fully In Business. I clean & patch MS cheese for a living...And what a living it is. Keep Vista in the box please!

I want some dang wine w/ that cheese! A Fine Wine Indeed.
