A fingerprint reader is definitely NOT safe
The fingerprint reader would protect you against a program specifically designed to log keystrokes and keystrokes only. As the article pointed out, that is not the case here.

The fingerprint reader would still have to transmit data. The data could be hijacked by the malware.

I'm not a fan of biometric security anyway, except maybe as a small addition to standard encryption. It's simple. Your private GPG key is compromised, you issue a revocation certificate. Your fingerprints are compromised, you cut off your hand?
