HP is NOT Alone
HP isn't the only company that has done this. Just in the last couple of years. Laptops with either customer or employee personal data have been stolen at least a dozen times--and that is just the reported cases!! No one can present to me a possible scenario where putting that kind of data on a laptop is a business requirement. You just shouldn't do it! PERIOD.
