Guess HP wont have to notify if HR3997 is law...
H.R. 3997: Financial Data Protection Act of 2005 just passed by Congress Committee that lets it up to the corps to decide if you should be told about information breeches that can lead to ID theft problems. Also the bill would block the "credit freeze" (you can lock you credit report so no one other than you can pull it) laws that many states have recently passed as well as other industry protections. Seems this bill was well crafted by lobbiest with little regard for the average persons concerns.

Weren't congressman bemoaning the ID theft problems when the cameras were rolling - its amazing what alot of industry lobbiest can accomplish in several months.
