DRM itself isn't a bad thing
It's what you DO with it that can be seen as bad.

Using DRM to protect your own computer or files you own can be a nice feature. The problem is when the creator of a file sells you a file and then restricts your usage of the file through DRM. Sure, they have the right to as long as they let you know that they are going to do just that. but that doesn't mean there won't be consumer backlash as a result. Again, it's not a case of DRM itself causing a problem, it's how it's used.

I guess another way of putting it is that DRM has the power to both protect your rights and limit your rights. There will always be rejoice when one's rights are protected, and there will always be outcry when one's rights are limited.

As for where the line is drawn as to what's "good" and what's "bad" use of DRM, it really has to be judged on a case by case basis, and at times on an individual level. For instance, limiting a media file to only be used by the person who purchased it I would consider to be "good", while limiting that media file to only be played on one computer and not at all on an MP3 player owned by that same person is something I would consider to be "bad". Thus I would support companies who sell the former and not the latter.
