I agree that all the practices you mentioned are really common sense and should be diligently applied on every platform.
Since you appear to be familiar with patching concerns, can you let me know how much the diligent repatching of the msd windows is costing ?
- backup times
- down times/lost productivity
- downloading times
- space
- correcting a botched patch
- reboots
- lost network BW from all the worms on the LAN/WAN caused by MS windows
and HOW OFTEN you have to carry out your patching cycle?
Also, if you compare the same with other platforms, eg, UNIX, VMS, z/OS, OS/X, etc. that would be great.
