Not smart enough as a species?
What a condescenging @ss. What people are is called "apathetic". They don't install anti-virus software because "it will never happen to me". That's the vast overwhelming majority of people. The remaining few just clicked on the file before they've had their morning coffee and have thought about it.
That doesn't mean they are dumb, just careless. As people tend to be from time to time.
As to the remark about not having control of our machines... I don't know about that guy, but I certainly do. I deleted MS Windows and installed Gentoo Linux. I have TOTAL control over my machine. Nothing on it but what I want.
And the only thing I have against Microsoft is that they don't let me control MY box with their software. (That and their high prices. And their activation scheme. Ok, make that 3 things I have against Microsoft.) Linux does. By the way, I've installed more Microsoft (desktop and servers), Novell, and Citrix software than 99.9999% of the people on any ZDNet forum, so I speak from experience.
