Obfuscated security for the

naive users? Instead of beefing up security in the platform and the apps, they just claim that they can provide a magic piece of middleware that can be a firewall and check the system to make sure that it is `secure'?

How is their firewall any better by other similar solutions? In the past people have reported many headaches trying to setup MS firewalls properly. `Accidentally' their firewalls was killing access to legitimate but non-MS appls

And, what's up with s/w by MS checking if you have patched your machine and restricting access to network if not? How can this magic program determine security based on the patch levels, since the security issues for which there is NO patch is unresolved! And, how can it tell if the latest patches have been applied unless it contacts an MS site and then do a download of a 5-20MB patch?

Users need a security scanning mechanism that can pinpoint insecure settings and propose resolution. Why would one relinquish control to a piece of MS code and allow it to restrict the machine's usability? It is the MS's crappy s/w that creates the security problems in the first place.

They have to FIX their s/w first. Not, just allow yet another piece of MS code determine / restrict the functionality of someone's machine based on its PERCEIVED level of security!

It is completely asinine: this `solution' amounts to clobber the legitimate owner/user over the head because he/she made the mistake to use MS s/w.

I guess MS perceives people to STILL leave in the caves and they can be manhandled in whichever possible way it is CONVENIENT for MS.

But again it is your prerogative to cause pain to youserlf even if you think that you have left the cave...;-)
