Making systems so good, that people are not required to be good any more..!
We are all trying to make systems so good, that people are not required to be good any more...! Is this a worthwhile goal? Technology companies and all others (University Profs to Tech Journalists, who make a living out of technology) would argue about the benefits of having the latest technology, simply because they make their living out of it...!
Technology assumes that every person is essentially bad unless proven good by the technology. So a bad person who can trick the technology ends up being certified as a 'good' one and then commits such crimes. Actually, the more focus we place on security technology, the less onus it puts on the individual to be good.
The technology seems to say, " no matter how clever you are, we will catch you once we are developed enough..." That time is never going to come regardless of the years or the billions we spend in it, because the thiefs also come from the same social/technological/gene pool! It is only leading to bigger and bigger investment cycles benefiting only one class of people: The Security Technology Vendors!
Shouldn't someone think about how to make people so good that technological security devices are not required any more...! We have a village in Maharashtra, India where houses have no doors! This is not a fable, visit Shani Shingnapur where you will see no doors and no theft for whatever reason though these people too have gold and diamonds.
Probably, we will never have either extreme. What is needed is a balance between human goodness and technology based security.
Today, that balance seems to heavily tilted in favor of technology for obvious (they wanna make money, ok!) reasons.
Ofcourse, not everyone will understand this...!
