I'm a .NET developer
So don't lecture me about being a Linux fanatic. I use what works and am very, very happy to nearly 100% MSFT free outside my customer sites.

What I have to wonder is that if the LINUX guys are so very happy with what they're using why they constantly have to throw "tomatoes" at the competition.[\b]

You mean tomatoes like the MSFT Get The (MSFT) Facts FUD-o-Rama? Yeah, if MSFT products are so good it makes you wonder why they spend so much time and your money paying for slanted TCO studies and throwing rocks at Linux.

I'm negative on MSFT because they deserve it. Their products are over-priced for the value they deliver. When security and reliability are the top requirements on a project, MSFT almost always comes in second. Once in while SQL Server will come out on top, one of the better products in their line, but as they keep jacking their prices and making their licensing requirements even more of a freak show than they were, that advantage becomes less significant.

I am no Microsoft "shill" myself

That's funny, you sound like one. Or at best a MS certified network tech or developer. When MSFT is the only thing you know, then it's the only solution you propose. I develop in .NET and SQL Server, but am just as comfortable with PHP and MySQL on a LAMP stack. I recommend OSS more often that MSFT solutions becuase they're cost effective and reliable. If you need more capacity, just install it. No ugly license issues or CAL's or product activation, the crap you have to put with MSFT.

You recommend MSFT because it's the only thing you know. Like when you suggest there are no update management tools for Linux, even for different flavors of Linux on the same network...which, btw, rarely happens...tells me you have no clue what management tools for Linux are out there and how they work. If you did you'd know what you were saying was absolute bulls---.

Whether you consider it good technology or not is strictly your opinion.

Not true, either. Especially if it's an opinion based on down time, upgrade headaches, crabby purchasing people complaining MSFT always wants more money for this or that, customers calling at the end of their rope because automatic updates hosed SQL Cluster...again, or they just found out switching to the new version of Office means they're going to have to spend a huge chunk of money converting legacy files because they ignored my advice to use an open file format for archives.

I simply chose that platform upon which to build a career and have made a darn good living at it.

So MSFT is your gravy train. That was pretty obvious.
