Yes, It Is Good
Internet users are the ones who pay the price for
those who do not secure their computers. Most
Spam is transmitted from malware infected
computers. By forcing people to actually pay a
price for not securing their computers may cause
people to quit being lazy, smarten up, or just
get off of the net.

This extortion will work until some major fortune
500 company is affected. When that happens, the
FBI or some other alphebet agency will step in
and offer assistance. However, as long as it is
only the average "Joe" who is infected, this type
of trojan will only continue to spread.

As for me, I use Linux. Not only that, I filter
any incoming email through ClamAV. I do this in
case I decide to forward a message to a Windows
user. As far as Linux vulnerabilities existing,
I acknowlege that. However, I also have added
hacks to my Linux kernel and programs that make
it immune to run of the mill malware. Many will
say that my computer still may be vulnerable.
This is true, but someone will have to write
custom malware just to infect my system. For any
virus writer out there, this is not economically
feasable.

When most people start using (and updating)
different types of security software (not just
the most popular) and stop downloading or opening
unverified files, malware writers will find
themselves having a hard time staying in
business. If stupid or lazy people find
themselve having to pay a price for laziness or
stupidity, we may find them getting less stupid
and less lazy.
