Be stuck in the past
People easily get on Microsoft back the moment anything goes wrong in the computer world. I wonder in which world we will still be living if Microsoft did not take the steps to lead the computer world into the computer age.
Computers have been in existence way before MS came to market, and what was the progress, Snail speed. If you look around till today most of the advancement in the computer industry that make it to the populace was driven by Microsoft (directly or indirectly). The need for more computing power and the ability of software to push and make use of the power makes chip manufacturers spend sleepiness night in the lab to develop something more powerful.
If the public (ordinary computer users) are not involve in the search for this power, believe it or not we will still be using a 386 at best and industries will probably be drooling at the prospect of a 486 with MMX.
But with the public involved, the need for speed and power became a necessity and guess who brought computer to the public. It is definitely not MAC, Linux (Imitation) or UNIX.
Microsoft made everybody fall in love with computer. It revolutionised the internet( in the 80's, you have to pay for any product that will give you access to the internet, browser, mail reader etc), instead of surfing the internet as if you are trying to write a document with WordStar 2.0 MS said surf as you will browse your album.
90% of IT staff today will probably be at a job that will bore them to death if MS has not come to the rescue and that includes IT staffs of Linux, UNIX, novel and Mac.
Think about it, how many real projects is there that provide employment for people purely on projects on this product and not an offshoot of projects driven by Microsoft products.
And for FirstN, if you are support staff that don?t know what they are doing, and the business is still running, well it is not MS fault that your company selection process is not based wholly on merit. Think about it, if it was the other way round and you have support personal that can not support the alternate OS, will the OS run at all, will the business not grind to a halt.
That is the level of development that Microsoft have put in their product that even a monkey can get it running to keep your business moving .
