.nyet performance is pretty poor
Last company I was at, we ran a pair of linux boxes in failover. They ran apache with PHP, OpenLDAP, PostgreSQL, and a half dozen other services.

They were the LDAP servers for a company with 1500 on site users.

They sat at about 1 to 3 average load all day, and the average response time was generally a second or less, with a few heavy pages taking 5 to 10 seconds.

There were about 120 web applications running on those machines.

The new CIO decided to dump that setup and go .net. The development environment was made up of about 12 machines, and the production farm was around 34.

With exactly ONE of the applications ported from the linux server to the .net machine, the load was already high enough that the server farm was having issues.

And ever service ran on it's own pair of failover machines. Horrific performance. And, constant downtime, as one part or another crashed under the load.

Again, with only one (admittedly fairly hefty) application ported over.

All to replace a pair of $5,000 machines with a farm worth well over $100,000 in hardware costs, and to reimplement software that was already implemented, in a well behaved, well oiled system, that had about 10 minutes of unscheduled down time a year.
