Ouch, my sympathies.
I could argue that, technically, nothing above the command line should be considered a UI that is part of the OS, but in this New World of point-and-click that would probably be nitpicking.

And it wouldn't apply to the point you made either, since ANY patch that hoses the system so it doesn't work the way it did BEFORE the patch should be considered a poor patch.
