"The Feds sponsor a study like this using an open source
company?"

Coverity produces source code analysis technology. It is a
commerical product.

"Are we to believe that this is in anyway scientific of accounts for
logic errors and vulnerabilities?"

I suggest you read about what types of error source analysis
discovers. It is not a count of "logic errors and vulnerabilities".

"You'd be lucky if it's even picking up all the syntax errors. "

Funny a compiler will do that for you.

"And you look at the products on this list and non of them are
enterprise ready or complex pieces of code."

Hmm so Linux kernel is not "enterprise ready or complex pieces
of code"?

"I don't think MS would notice this let alone worry about it. "

Then I suggest you read their SEC filings.

"People look for the best all around product, service and long
term price and Windows wins hands down. Just XP alone comes
with all of these components."

Does it? The LAMP stack?

"Get the free version of SQL Server and you've got something
comparable to this running on a 3 year old Toshiba."

True. It would take a 3 yo Toshiba laptop running LAMP to
perform like a high end server running windows and SQL
Server:-)
