Yes, Microsoft has to pretend they are happy to have this project, but,
they would much rather that identity only worked 100% if you used Windows, and they sure don't want to share control.

The basic idea of InfoCard is really quite simple, and just based on a combination of technology, and this concept has been discussed for years. The reason that Microsoft can have the appearance of first to market is they are the only ones that can guarantee distribution on 90% of desktops.

This project is all about making sure that Microsoft can not pull a fast one (similar to Liberty). Microsoft has decided that controlling identity will help them make sure things don't work right if you don't use Windows. This may not work any better than Passport, but they will keep trying . . . .
