why am I not surprised
This is the timeline as I see it:
12/15/05 - Employee looses backup cd by leaving it on an airplane seat.
1/11/06 - Deloitte & Touche finally notified McAffee
1/30/06 - McAffee finally receives information on what MAY have been on said cd.
2/23/06 - article posted on ZDNET.
My first question in this: What kind of an idiot takes a cd with THAT kind of information with them onto an airplane? Now don't get me wrong because I know people do do some kind of work on airplanes occasionally but what kind of idiot takes sensitive information like that with them? Apparently one without common sense.
My second question (or maybe more of a statement either or): Is why the heck did they wait until January the 11th to notify McAfee.
Three: Why did they not give them the "particulars" until the end of January? Why was that information not available when they first alerted McAffee of the problem on January the 11th? (nearly a month AFTER the data was lost)
Now I am of the opinion that McAffee is a piece of you know what (I use AVG). This kind of thing only reaffirms that opinion. I know McAffee didn't lose the data but they trusted that data to someone who did. Which amounts to almost the same thing in my book. Makes me glad I have never ever used McAfee or worked for them.
