Depends where you work
have my Nano running right now here at work... and yes i can plug it into my computer if i wanted to.

I could do a lot more damage and steal files much easier than trying to use my iPod though, and it would probably be years if anyone ever knew.

Good security doesnt come from banning items as much as knowing how to control them.
