How fix?
How can MS stop people from opening executable files in their e-mail?

Block the file types? Can be done, but can also be turned off. If you can e-mail a .zip file, you can e-mail a virus. If you can receive a .zip file, you can receive a virus. Simple as that.

Should MS make it so .zip files can't execute code? That would kind of defeat the purpose of the .zip product (not totally, it could still be used for static compression, but no longer for installation files).

No, the problem with executable e-mail attachments is that people aren't educated to never open them unless they requested them, got them from a known source, downloaded without opening, scanned with a good antivirus program and even then be paranoid about it.

There's a point beyond which it isn't the car manufacturer's fault that some idiot got drunk and ran over a kid - it's the driver's fault.
