Wrong issue
The issue is not if you like Microsoft or not. Nor is the issue how long Microsoft is going to be around or not. The issues is not about how much arm-bending is needed to make people use Linux or not. Actually I use both Windows and Linux.

The issue is the sheer NUMBER of patches Microsoft issues, and the resulting speculations of WHAT they actually sold us in the first place.

The issue is also that we recently have seen gaping holes in code stemming back from the 1980's. What is 25 year old code doing in a 2006 OS ?

The issue is also that f.inst MediaPlayer, InternetExplorer and others can't be uninstalled if you prefer something else. You can 'remove acces from the desktop or menu bar', which is something entirely different than uninstalling.

I know from experience, and redid it just to see if it really was true, that an unpatched W/2000 PC survives less than a minute on the net before it gets hacked. Actually one didn't even finish install before it died. My Linux PC (actually same HW), has not been hit by anything for 4 years now, and last installation when I updated from Suse 9.1 to 9.2 was - from the net.
