It's the user, not necessarily the OS.
Now, there is plenty of time when a bug is found in an OS or an app, but this story is pointless. It?s addressing flaws in old software and old OS releases. The title of the article should be:

?Windows users at risk because they are uneducated regarding or unconcerned with OS security?

The real long and short of it is that most non-Windows users are a bit more on top of OS Security than Windows users (at least the UNIX holy-rollers). For instance? my parents don?t even know what Windows Update is, and have probably never used it.

I would also wager a bet to say that when their eMac (they have an Apple now) pops up the security update application, they press cancel, which probably means they?re vulnerable to some sort of FreeBSD bug, even with the most recent base install of OS X.

Just in the same way as if you gave the general public installations of Linux, they would be hacked within a few months. Do you really think your Grandma knows how to recompile the kernel or upgrade her sshd?

So anyway, this is by no means a pro-Microsoft post, as I?m a Mac person, personally, but let?s call it what it is. This is about user education, as well as user concern, not about crappy software.

Also, in response to someone else?s post regarding browser security and IE letting someone taking over their machine, and how it?s only possible on Windows with IE?

Read this from Jan 20, 2006. It?s regarding a remote exploit using a URL through Konqueror over KDE. ?a common browser on a common Environment, if I?m not mistaken.

Thanks.
