Can you ever protect yourself from the dumb things you will eventually do, despite the obvious stupidity of it all when you look at it in hindsight?

Yes. All anti-spyware/anti-virus is based on this very principle, MS's offering is no different. If the security software detects that you are about to allow a malicious program onto your computer, it will stop it. You won't even get the option of running it even though it promises to be really good porn! You have just been protected from yourself.
