HUGE difference!!
Another red herring. He did it too is not an excuse.

He did it too? That would suggest that both MS and Apple are currently doing the exact same thing. What is the difference between Apple and MS? Apple is doing this right now to limit access to their entire OS and no amount of money will ever allow any hardware company to ever compete with Apple. Apple also refuses to license their DRM to anybody at any price and when someone manages to bypass their DRM, Apple artifically and anti-competitively chokes them out.

Contrast this with MS who allow their OS to run on any hardware (and have no plans to change this) and are willing to license their DRM to all competitors who can pay the price. Read the quote again because I don't think it says what you are praying it says.

We don't want this technology to be available to every hobbyist. We need to keep the number of licensees down to a manageable number. We charge a license fee to keep the number of people we have to deal with down to a level we can handle.

Nowhere in that quote do they talk about keeping competitors down. All I see is that they expect there to be some licensee management overhead and they want to charge enough to keep that overhead low. Both Apple and MS have had to sign deals with the MPAA and RIAA to get access to their copyrighted content and I'm sure one of the requirements of the deal is that both Apple and MS take reasonable precautions to ensure that their technologies can't be used to steal content. Apple has decided that they can be most profitable by being 100% anti-competitive. MS has decided that they will allow competition.

He did it too simply doesn't apply because Apple is not doing what MS is doing (or planning on doing), Apple is doing far, far worse right now in their control of their OS, their hardware, and their DRM. In comparison, MS looks like a saint.
