Why the hysteria?

I've been using a simliar system to this for over a year. Its fantastic!

Amsterdam's Schipol airport has had this in place for ages. As a frequent traveller through the airport the scheme is worth every penny I pay for it.

Basically I was interviewed by Dutch immigration to ensure I'm not a threat etc etc. My iris was scanned and loaded onto a smartcard (I hold the card and they don't hold any of my biometric data)

Every time I go in or out of the airport I can simply go to the iris machine I don't get held up in a line for passport control, just the regular bag/body scan.

Its a fabulous system. Currently even with just one machine in/out of the international area it still saves loads of time (up to 30 minutes on some Monday mornings) over the lines and lines that form at the international terminal.

I just hope that the schemes being introduced and trialed elsewhere are compatible.
