Over do I'll agree with
Particularly when they make so many components required at the OS level and install and turn on services, like IIS and DCOM, that the vast majority of home users and many corporate desktop users won't need. Since they have historically left default security weak to facilitate integration, this creates a real problem. Some of the components are 'modular' in the sense that you don't have to install them or you can remove them but others, if removed, make Windows act flaky.

I'm not too thrilled about their intended security cure either, Digital Rights Management and TCPA. However, economic realities require that I work within the Windows framework for now. I will hedge my bet with some secondary work in Linux though.
