A Thumb drive with the core OS having a Physical "Write Protect" of some kind (I know about DSL and fingerprint recognition) or even a processor Plug through thingy like the old CPU boosters for the 486/586 generation. It could sure as heck decrease boot times.
PS Anybody out there have a Live distro tweaked to start a config save folder then have it auto load instead of having to load it all the time manually like in knoppix. before u turbo nerd me about how easy it is to config knoppix to do it. I Have zero "Linux" savvy and as far as the tutorials the docs should start, "This is an icon, in windows this would have started the appropriate application. In this distribution as in most you should not expect this kind of behavior as you should know or compile the application yourself.
I learned win 95a by purposely picking it apart untill died and reinstalling it up to 6 times a day just to see what made it tick (I considered this fun).
