I used to think the same way, but since I've run into automated tools to update BIOS or other firmware without user intervention, and WHILE Windows is running. It is just a matter of time until badware authors start taking advantage of them to infect a BIOS. Then we'll really see hell on earth.
Another issue in the replace-hardware-unnecessarily issue that you and others keep bringing up is that, it is simply faster = less expensive to place a new HDD and run recovery there. Also, since the old HDD is still intact, you can recover their data anytime, as needed. It is just a matter of how users wants to spend their money - and your time. Just because software repair is technically feasible does not mean it is economically the best option, specially if you have to deal with their data saved in places they do not know in their old HDD. Which, by the way, it is like walking on eggshells.
Forget it, man. Just put a new HDD with their factory software, and pull data out of their old HDD as the user requires. They'll be happy, and you'll be FREE. - Posted by: lamp299 Posted on: 01/28/06 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
