Itook MS to task on this before, now some suggestions.
Many of you will remember I took MS to task over this attack vector and the fact they delayed getting the patch out. At that time I speculated one reason Vista is so slow coming out is that MS is caught between a rock and a hard place when it comes to supporting legacy and securing their OS. I believe this sort of story simply proves my point.

You can bet that some where, at some time, a developer wrote something that required the ability to run code from an image simply becaue he/she could. (I have no idea why but someone did I am sure.) When MS makes a function/feature available people use it with some assurance that the next version of the OS will support it. In fact you can rightly assume that is very much part of the reason for Microsoft's sucess.

I absolutely believe there are a lot of smart people at MS who believe the time to drop a lot of legacy support and move ahead is forcing itself on MS. I hope the guys and gals at the top start listening...
