R.I.M. patent infringement.....
I would disagree with the posters who claim that it is entirely RIM's fault. First of all: NTP did not develop the technology that they are "protecting". They bought the rights to the patent much as a web squatter buys up domain names and then sits on them until a company comes along that needs that domain name. They then proceed to charge (or blackmail depending on your viewpoint) the company many times what the domain name cost. The US Patent office has already indicateed that most of the patents held that relate to the push technology that RIM employs are not enforceable anymore. The problem here is the slow movement of the Patent Office beurocracy. This is so typical of our government. It moves at a snail's pace on important issues such as this. I agree that RIM should have worked something out long ago with NTP. But, disagree that this is entirely RIM's fault. NTP is hoping to cash in on a great idea that it didn't come up with. Kind of like the record industry wanting Apple to charge more for Itunes music. So, they can jump on the Ipod profit bandwagon. I believe RIM will prevail in this eventually.
