i have connected to ad-hoc networks to see what it would do and i didnt get anywhere. it would be easier to exploit an open wireless ap with no lockout restrictions (wep, wpa, mac restrictions, etc)

i left my laptop on once scanning for networks and when i got back after a while, it showed it was connected to something. (the lights were blinking in the connected formation) but i couldnt go anywhere or do anything. when i refreshed the list, it was empty. when i switched to linux and scanned using kismet, i didnt find any broadcasting (or passive) ap's. so it could have been my computer was broadcasting and someone passively (or possibly actively) picked it up.

so this ad hoc thing should be a non issue. its like doing 'telnet mail.somewhere.com:25' and getting a prompt. youre in the server, but now what? :P
