Lost tapes - big deal. We're talking about either an IBM 35XX or less likely in the MF environment an LTO variant. If it is mainframe, then the data is likely EBCDIC not ascii, and you would need an entire compatible data center and black-hatted tech team - just to read the data. Sorry, I just don't see a major risk here
