Most likely yes. When you think about it, Apple is obviously interested in harvesting customer data. So would they make a dumb app or a smart app to do this? Why build an app that's so limited that it only gives you one use out of it? Why not make it a multifaceted octopus?
Put it to you this way: until we get to see the source code and verify for ourselves that Apple is being honest, we're supposed to take the word of some big remote corporation. Let's just say that you have to be rather incredibly simple minded to blindly trust what a corporation claims about things..
