It doesn't matter!
Online or offline...the point is that credit card transactions get stored in databases, which are subject to insufficient data-handling and security standards! It is happening on both fronts. I'm not all that worried about the clerk at the register, since I'm standing right there. I am worried about staff in the IT department for that company...or its business partners.

Anyway...MC should be equally concerned about itself and its card processors, given that the biggest breach recently was the one company that did processing for several cards...forget the name, but a few of the cards moved to a new processor after that...I'm not sure that MC did.
