AVG vs. Avast
Have used both programs interchangeably for several years. I think they're comparable in performance, and the VB tests will tend to bear that out. Interestingly, avast! was among the AVs capable of detecting all the discovered WMF exploits recently, while AVG lagged far behind. Personally, I would choose avast!

However, if you want the best, then plunk down your money and get Eset's NOD32. Small footprint, fast scanning, excellent e-mail scanner, some recently added anti-spyware capabilities (limited) and reasonably priced for initial purchase and subscription renewals. Used for a year and liked it so well, I bought a site license for our school. Sleep like a baby now, knowing it's out there kicking virus butt!
