First, I note that party caucuses do not typically involve secret ballots, making the Michigan vote considerably less disturbing than a regular election. I understand further that absentee ballots are secret only to the extent that election officials can be trusted to keep confidences.
That being said, can Internet votes be made both secure and confidential without simply trusting the integrity of election officials? Semi-detailed technical explainations are preferred.
There are, after all, good reasons why modern elections are typically conducted by secret ballot. I can give some of those reasons if you really think it necessary.
