Poor, Poor Microsoft
My lord, the clue train has left and all of the Windows users were left at the station.

"Running with limited privileges under Windows is easier said than done, mainly because there is still a great deal of third-party software that makes doing so impossible, or extremely inconvenient."

So your excuse it laziness? So which is easier, updating 15 anti-spyware apps and reisntalling every six months, or taking the time to make your computer work as non-admin and using run-as occasionally. There are resources all over the net that show the little tricks to making your computer run as a non-admin. It's not that hard.

"Running with limited privileges doesn't "guarantee" anything, especially in light of the possibility of a privilege-escalation attack."

Now, you are justifying the dangerous behavior by coming up with extremely rare scenarios, that would be guaranteed to happen if you were running as admin. And note, I said virtually gaurantee. I know there are exceptions to every rule and any malware code runnning on a system is bad, but you are simply reaching to justify what is a really dangerous behavior.

"There are also user-mode rootkits, I hate to tell you."

No there aren't. Rootkits can not be installed as any other user other than an admin user, unless the malware exploits a priviledge escalation vulnerability and gains root.Any malware that is executed under a limited account is limited to the users home directory and cannot infiltrate the rest of the OS, therefore, making detection and cleanup very easy. Where did you hear this rubbish?

"So much for being high-and-mighty, huh?"

Apparently every peice of foreign code you bring into your system is, since it had carte blanche access to your system.
