I have the Avast! AV. I can backup ZDN's claim of it missing only one file (boot.idx). Fortunately, my firewall alerted me that it was trying to register itself to load on bootup.
A good AV is not enough. You need layers of protection. AVs, firewalls, anitspyware, rootkit detectors, HOSTS file, disabling unneeded services,... layers. With only one type of security, you have only one chance to stop the crap. It misses, you're screwed. With multiple countermeasures, you stand a better chance since intruders have fewer avenues of entry.
