Not against "this vulnerability," but "known malware"
No, that's not what WindowsOneCare (WOC) has been telling you. A link on the WOC homepage entitled "Information on the Windows Meta File vulnerability security alert." goes to a page at

http://beta.windowsonecare.com/secinfo/wmf1228.aspx

that contains the following in boldface when all other text on the page isn't boldface, quotation marks added by me:

"If you are a Windows OneCare user and your current status is green or yellow, you are already protected from known malware that tries to attack this possible vulnerability."

Please understand the careful wording in that passage. That text does not admit there is a vulnerability, nor does it say that you're protected against said "possible" vulnerability. It says only that you're protected against *known malware* that tries to attack this alleged vulnerability.

It's the *unknown*, zero-day, brand-new virulent exploits that we worry most about a situation like this. Until you install a patch that blocks the WMF attack vector--official patch now available out-of-cycle via Windows Update--you are *not* "protected against this vulnerability."
