Milly is an M$ Shill!
Milly, you are correct....an educated user with a reasonable level
of technological expertise can secure a Windows machine and
prevent malicious attacks. I'm just curious, what kind of time
and financial investment do you make to preserve that level of
protection? How many third-party products have you purchased
to preserve your security? And how much time a week do you
spend configuring and updating those products?

Sadly, this exploit is so potentially dangerous that even a well
maintained machine is vulnerable to attack. And yet you seem to
blindly trust a company that has repeatedly failed in it's
attempts to protect the peole who use their software. In
addition, you attack the open source movement that has, in this
case, produced a solution that has been verified by several
independent security specialists as safe and reliable. Why do you
have such a problem with that?

As an IT Manager I am faced with the daily predicament of
defending my organization from the hackers of the world, and it
is refreshing to know that there are still people out there who
are willing to offer their skills to benefit the greater good.

On the other hand, you have Microsoft. Developing a patch that
may or may not work (there's no way to verify since we never see
the code) and releasing it on a delayed schedule that will allow
millions of potential infections. What assurances do you have
that the software Microsoft releases won't break something else
or create some new, unforeseen vulerability? None. In fact,
Microsoft has proven time and again that the software they
release should be expected to contain multiple bugs and
insecurities that may compromise your machine.

Unfortunately, most users don't have the requisite knowledge to
configure and maintain the necessary elements that prevent
attacks. The vast majority of office workers rely on an IT
department to support their machines...and don't have a clue
what to do when they have a problem at home.

This latest exploit is just another example of Microsoft's lack of
security knowledge and inability to release a product that
doesn't compromise the security of the user and the business.
Entire industries have been built on the flaws in Microsoft
software. This alone should be proof that the company has a
single minded vision of profitability at any cost...even the users!

I pity anyone who so blindly follows a company that has treated
it's customers the way Microsoft has. How can you trust an entity
that has proven over and over again to be untrustworthy and at
the same time criticize independent citizens who have taken it
upon themselves to solve a critical problem?
