probably for the same reason my not patched win2k or why mine or my fiance's winxp boxen dont get virii. but still of the minority of us who know how to keep our system clean, lets pat ourselves on the back and forget the clueless. the ignorant. the uninformed. some people have these things explained to them. a small portion pick up on it. some have their account disabled from 1 to 3 times per month because they dont listen. some dont care and feel someone will always be there to clean up their mess.

those are the people who sit and launch scans and attacks on our systems. theyre the ones who need protection. i use linux on my server, however, to prevent people from cracking onto my system. i see a lot of virus like scans on the system... like 100 to 500 attempts to login on a username on ssh within 30 seconds. but sometimes i notice what looks like someone actually trying to gain access. those are the ones im trying to protect myself from.
