Business and Linux
"They lock down user systems so tight, the user
can not even install a small piece of software
they need without contacting their company's
Gestapo... I'll let the reader draw their own conclusions regarding the real reasons for this. "

Duh. Productivity. The same reason many companies don't allow their employees to do personal online business at work. Besides potentially opening the company up to liability (if your credit card number gets sniffed off of your company's network, is the company at least partially lliable?), you get less work done. Managers don't like that.

"However, until a single organization takes
control, refines it for the mass market, and
persuades others to adopt open multimedia file
formats, it will not happen.
"

They're called Novell. Not to mention IBM's very public flirtation with Linux. It hasn't changed a thing. The only way Linux will attain the same size piece of pie as Windows (which I agree with you, is not a good thing) is if they do EXACTLY what Windows does. OEM preinstalls, retail box, mass media exposure, and drop the geeky image. Perceptions like this are far too common.
