Landlines
Yeah, they couldn't complain, they were in their cars. It is hard to make a landline complaint from the road unless you pull over and go to a pay phone.
Hmmm, I guess I would have to disagree with some of the comments.
On most major catastrophes, is it landlines or cellphones being used...it's an availability thing. Mobile units can be moved in to handle cellular overloads. Driving in your car and have an accident... use a cell or find a landline?
Not knocking landlines, they have been around a long time and very reliable, but I have also seen them not work, both voice and data as well. Cut cables, degraded copper, bad jumpers, ice and snow have cut off and degraded landline voice and data communications. Cellular switching offices have the same redundancy as landline switching offices if not better and it covers a broader spectrum on the distribution side, not point to point, which actually gives you more redundancy. Under-engineered??? Have many ever seen landline POP distribution panels, probably not. You say under engineered is pushing billions of bits of voice and data across the air, yet I have seen distribution panels in locations that have triple scotch-locked cables in a rats-nest of wires, some barely connected, not to mention about a pound of dirt on the wires.... Much of it depends on the cellular company as well as the landline company and their employees, they are not all created equally. I have been around both sides for many years. I will take cellular. Just my own opinion...
