Yes, but
I agree with most of your points, but I have a problem with:

line companies."
Do you ever remember a land line being out of service during a
power outage (except your powered CPE)--or during bad
storms, etc., that caused heavy usage? Nope, didn't think so, but
it is common to cell phone systems. We had a sudden storm last
winter that closed schools and tied up traffic for hours. What did
everyone do immediately? Grabbed their cell phones, overloaded
the underengineered systems, and got nowhere. I didn't hear
any complaints in the press or on TV about land lines being
down.

Worst of all, we cell phone customers apparently accept it!
