There's a general problem with the prison system
"How may elderly have their savings wiped out only to die in the streets?"

Fewer than you apparently think. The vast majority of homeless on the streets are there because of alcohol and/or drug problems. Not because someone wiped out their pension fund. Because by the time you near retirement, you've started allocating your resources into bonds and the money market, fixed income sources - the safer investments that give you the money to live off of. You're not looking to grow it further at that point, but to keep it safe. This is rule one from any credible financial advisor for people that are near that age.

I'm not trying to minimize the damage that these guys do. But it's not on the same level. Ask someone who's had a child or spouse murdered. Their life is just never the same. They carry that grief constantly. If ripped out of part of my pension, yes, that hurts. But if I had all my eggs in that basket I'm a fool anyway. I may have to work a few extra years to make up for it. But I haven't lost a loved one permanently.

"I see no reason these guys should be in a country club until they come out."

Nor do I. I don't believe it's hard enough on the rest either. We shouldn't be feeding these people steak dinners. They should get meat and potatoes, but army quality. happy And make them work. Hard. All of them. But that still doesn't mean that the white collar guys should be penned with the others.
