Yeah, but the difference is...
...that a properly configured Linux system doesn't have that many administrator-level processes running that a typical, non-privileged user can touch, whereas the Windows kernel kicks off a number of admin-level processes in response to common user actions.

Thus, the likelihood of an exploit run by a typical user on a Windows system hosing the entire system is considerably greater than the likelihood of the same thing happening on a Linux system.

Privilege separation provides an inherent greater deal of security on a well-hardened Linux system.

So, yeah, I can hose my account on my *nix box, but I won't subvert the entire O/S, like I could with Windows.
