Sure, but...
This particular thing is irrelevant to me (gaim on linux), but the same can't be said about all th malware out there. My web server (Apache on FreeBSD) is still constantly hit by Code Red exploit attempts from compromised Windows boxes, and it's been what -- 3 years? -- since the fix has been available. Until all the MS crapware on the 'net has been replaced by something better, there'll still be an awful lot of bandwidth being wasted as compromised boxes continually try to exploit each other.
